METAMORPHOSIS/ATHENS (2014-15)
The first installment of the ongoing project Metamorphosis, unfolded in dialogue with my home city of Athens, Greece. It began with the drawings Improvisations, exploring the poetic potential of urban elements, and proceeded with no water*, where wall carvings from the underground Nazi detention facilities in Athens were transferred onto the above ground "body"of the city, tracing a connection between Greece's historical past and the country's current predicament. The project's body of work:
*no water will be featured in Art Journal, Fall 2016 issue (cover and artist pages), and on its online counterpart, Art Journal Open. Pictured: "no water", at the Memorial Site 1941-1944, documenting the wall carvings of the detainees held by the Nazis. Photography, Christina Georgiadou |
