On August 15 an exploration of Chicago's business center, also known as LaSalle district, took place in the form of a public space documentation/intervention. The documentation was realized with the collection of traces, a method used throughout the project Metamorphosis. La Salle street, nicknamed "The Canyon" because of the tall buildings looming on both sides of it, is home to a number of banks and corporate headquarters. The Chicago Board of Trade building, the Continental Illinois National Bank and the Federal Reserve of Chicago form the terminus of the canyon.
The exploration culminated in the Chicago Board of Trade entrance hall where a plaque listing the locations that were occupied by the organization is located. The trace that was drawn captured the founding date as well as the Board of Trade initial locations, but remained incomplete due to the interruption of the process by the building's security guards. The trace was confiscated but was afterwards retrieved. A request to collect more traces from within the building was declined due to its high security profile, as described by security personnel.
Here is shown the photographic documentation of the exploration along with the eighteen (18) traces collected that day.
Chicago Canyon followed the project Haymarket Square, and is part of Metamorphosis/USA and the broader project Metamorphosis
