IMPROVISATIONS (2014)
Drawing

Drawing
Metamorphosis/Kurfürstendamm
Drawings in dialogue with the urban environment of the Kurfürstendamm area in Berlin. Part of the work Metamorphosis/ Kurfürstendamm and the project Metamorphosis, Improvisations explore the poetic potential of urban elements continuing the practice initiated in Metamorphosis/Athens. Abstract forms and patterns latent in walls, manhole covers, etc. are documented on location, taken out of their initial context and given a new function as building blocks of an improvisational composition. Each drawing is connected to a Trace (Trace A, Trace B, etc.), a documentation sample from which the form that "builds" the composition is drawn.
Archival notes: The drawings are executed with powdered pigment in black and turquoise on Arches 100% cotton paper.

Source Material/Traces
Documentation samples from manhole covers, walls, and other kinds of urban elements collected through the method of frottage, a non-intermediated way of capturing texture on paper. Each sample/rubbing is a Trace corresponding to a series of drawings .
