MELAN SOMA (2013)
"Melan soma" (blackbody) in Physics is used to describe an idealised physical body that absorbs all electromagnetic radiation that hits its surface. No light is reflected and none penetrates the body. The idea of a black body was originally introduced in 1860: ...the supposition that bodies can be imagined which, for infinitely small thicknesses, completely absorb all incident rays, and neither reflect nor transmit any. I shall call such bodies perfectly black, or, more briefly, black bodies. Archival notes: The work is executed with powdered pigment in black on handmade 100% cotton paper. Melaena chole is the Greek name for black bile and the etymological origin of melancholy.
