METAMORPHOSIS
Ongoing project exploring the poetic potential of urban elements and the meaning of place with a focus on the practices of public intervention, drawing and installation. Developing in dialogue with diverse urban environments it has taken place in Athens, Greece, Berlin, Germany, Belgrade, Serbia, London, and across the USA. Metamorphosis/Athens 2014-2015 Athens was the first stop in Metamorphosis' itinerary in January 2014 and its latest in March 2015. Initially urban elements from the city's layer of manhole covers, pavement tiles, etc. formed the point of departure for the work. In the latest installment of the project the 1941-44 underground Nazi detention facilities at Korai 4 were the starting point for the intervention no water of 26 March 2015 in downtown Athens. Documentation samples drawn: January 2014 - March 2015 Improvisations no water (χωρις νερο) Metamorphosis/Kurfürstendamm 2014 The project, realized in March 2014, drew on elements of the Kurfürstendamm area in Berlin, Germany, engaging in a dialogue with the Stolpersteine, the commemorative plaques for those deported and killed during the Nazi era and continuing the practice of Improvisations, drawings related to the built environment of the city. The project was featured in the group exhibition Lost Space in João Cocteau Gallery,Berlin, March 2014. Documentation samples drawn: March 2014 Hier wohnte Improvisations Lintel Documentary Metamorphosis/Belgrade 2014- Urban elements documented from Belgrade, Serbia, gave rise to improvisational drawings continuing the practice initiated in Athens while a new body of work based on documentation material drawn from the city is in progress. Documentation samples drawn: April 2014 Improvisations Metamorphosis/London The practice of Metamorphosis in dialogue with London's urban environment unfolded largely during the process of the documentation phase and expanded to include artist's books created on location. The practices of public intervention/performance and documentation were in the focus of the creative process.
