Constructing an image of the intangible
Parts that constitute a whole and units that build a construction are recurring elements in my work. The issue of Time, how it could be interpreted visually and what image could restore to it some of its sense of continuity is an ongoing research, often emerging in the form of the Sequence and the ancient calendar practice. Documentation that captures elements from my environment and objects that carry history or meaning reemerges as a method. After years of conceptual and minimalist work, I returned to painting through still-life studies in oil. Working from observation, I focused on objects and forms that carried a sense of presence and history. This period of exploration gave rise to an ongoing series I call Diary Paintings. Created primarily in the alla prima method, the works form a sequence that documents moments and observations, as well as memories, building a larger record through the accumulation of individual diary entries. |
